How much does a counseling session cost?
First, see the next section below or contact me to determine if Mindset Counseling is networked through your insurance provider. Otherwise, our out-of-pocket rate is $160 for the initial intake session and $130 for ongoing sessions. Currently we are willing to use a sliding scale fee for families or individuals that may need a temporary reduced fee. After an appointed length of time, we can re-evaluate the reduced fee to determine financial need to do so.
Which insurances do you accept?
Each therapist in our practice accepts different insurances, but between everyone we currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealth Group / Optum, Compsych (EAP and insurance), Curalinc EAP, Magellan, and Tricare.
How do I know if I need therapy?
Some individuals seek out therapy to help them with a specific mental health concern such as feeling anxious, having a hard time concentrating on tasks, having a lack of motivation, a general feeling of “blah”, experiencing excessive worry, being on edge or stressed, or other issues that seem to be effecting their mood. There might be times where it is necessary to talk about hurtful issues that may have occurred in the past. Others seek counseling to work on relationships in their life such as with a partner, a family member, in-laws, work relationships, or other relationships. Some people come to counseling to just talk things out. All of us come to a point in our lives where it would be helpful to talk to someone about what is going on in our life. You are welcome to contact us for a free phone consultation so we can determine if therapy is a good fit for you.
Is it confidential? Can I tell you literally anything?
Literally anything. It all remains confidential. All of your information is kept strictly private and will not be shared without your written permission. Our clinicians pride themselves on creating a non-judgemental environment. We hope anyone who walks in our office feels they can be open when they are ready. The only information we am obligated to report (both ethically and legally) is any suspect of child or elder abuse or if we feel you or someone else’s safety is in jeopardy. If this is ever the case, we will talk about it and nothing will be kept a secret from you.
How does it work?
First step is to give us a call or shoot us an email to let me know you are interested in making contact. From there we can do a short phone consultation to determine what you are looking for in therapy and to discuss financial/insurance information. If/when you would like to move forward, we will schedule our first appointment. You’ll get a follow up email from us asking you to complete some paperwork online before your first appointment. Please bring your insurance card to your first appointment. We will generally go over some nuts and bolts of counseling and then get to know you a little more. You are welcome to ask me any and all questions!
How long do I continue to see you?
This is a very good question. It really all depends. This is something we can have a conversation about, but ultimately would be decided on when you feel you meet your emotional needs. We have clients that see me weekly, every other week, once a month, or check in once every few months. We will definitely collaborate on what a good time frame is for you.
Is it like the movies? Do I lay on a couch while you take notes?
That would be really fancy if that was the case – but that just isn’t our style! We will talk about the therapy process at our first meeting and go over some nuts and bolts of counseling. Although we may take some notes at our first session, it is generally information about you that we feel might be important to remember. We usually do not take any notes after the first session. Our sessions will look like us having a conversation with each other. In the end, you can certainly lay on the couch if you really want to, but we won’t make you!
Can you prescribe medication?
No we cannot. We are Master’s level therapists, not a doctors. We are happy to refer you to psychiatrist or your primary care physician to assist you with medication. With your written permission, we often communicate with your prescribing physician to collaborate on your mental health care.
What do I need for my first session?
After we make our first appointment, you’ll get an email from us with instructions on how to fill out some paperwork online. This is done through a confidential and HIPAA approved website that helps make our lives easier! You’ll read through and electronically sign some consents and forms online (when we meet in person we’ll go over those real quick!) When you come to your first session, please be sure to bring your insurance card. You are also welcome to bring any documents that you feel would be helpful for your file (psychiatrist information, discharge paperwork, IEP, etc.).
